Earlier this week, Lady Gaga's pal Terry Richardson posted a photo of Mother Monster sitting in what looked like the world's fanciest wheelchair. Turns out that it may well be exactly that -- the whole thing is covered in 24-karat gold.
According to the Daily Beast, Gaga's stylist contacted jewelry designer Ken Borochov and commissioned a gold-plated chair, giving him just a week's notice to create it. "It was a huge undertaking," Borochov tells the Daily Beast. The chair, with tufted black leather seats and a removable leather canopy, includes 1.5 ounces of gold plating, which alone is worth about $2,600. "I wanted [it] to look like a throne," says Borochov. He won't, however, reveal the total cost of the chair.
The designer, who's also made jewelry for Gaga but has yet to meet the star, says that the chair doesn't include any modern technology: it's not electrically-powered, for example. "The most important thing was supposed to make something extraordinary that is fit for a queen, which Gaga is,” he explains.
Prior to her surgery to repair a tear in her hip, Gaga told fans that she couldn't walk, and was spotting using a run-of-the-mill wheelchair, which she'd dubbed "Emma." It's unclear if Gaga is actually using the golden wheelchair to get around, or whether it's simply a cool fashion accessory.
